A house’s entryway is the first impression visitors will have of your home. Whether you have a grand, double height foyer or only room for a hall tree to hang coats, August is a great time to reassess the visual impact and usefulness of that area. Make the most of an often unconsidered space before heading into autumn and winter which often brings messy weather and more visitors.

The smaller space of a foyer allows you to play around with bold wallpaper or bright paint colors for a pop of the unexpected without spending a lot or making a large-scale commitment. You can also add funky wall sculptures or 3D elements without having to worry about furniture placement getting in the way.

Storage that is Stylish and Functional

There are plenty of ways to fit functional storage in the entryway while keeping in tune with your personal style. Minimalist? Go for wall hooks in natural materials and a live-edge bench. Boho? Try funky baskets for each member of the household to stash their stuff. Traditional? You can’t go wrong with a classic console table and mirror flanked by lamps to catch keys, mail and dog leashes.

Add Architectural Details

An entryway is the perfect place to add some architectural details, especially if it immediately opens into a living room or dining room. Adding wainscoting or specialty crown molding can help delineate the entryway from the rest of the house, marking it as its own space.

You don’t have to save the bright door just for the outside, paint the inside of your front door or the ceiling a fun color to add some pizazz. Hang a unique light fixture to draw the eye and make a statement. Add some whimsical elements with unique hardware that isn't anywhere else in the house.
